ABOUT US.
Mohammad and Randa Alftih fled their war-torn hometown of Aleppo, Syria, and arrived in Peterborough in 2016. After just eleven months, they opened a new restaurant downtown.
Mr. Alftih brings his experience operating two businesses in Syria to his new role as general manager of Oasis Mediterranean Grill. His wife, Randa, cooks traditional Syrian dishes.
For Mohammad and Randa, opening a small restaurant would have been impossible if it weren’t for the fact that long-time Peterborough resident Kenzu Abdella (a mathematics professor at Trent and the President of the Kawartha Muslim Association) offered to become a partner to make their dream of opening a business a reality.
They hope you drop in for a visit and some delicious food.
APPETIZERS
Hummus
A blend of chickpeas, tahini, garlic, lemon juice and olive oil, lightly seasoned.
Baba Ghanouge
Roasted eggplant pureed with tahini, garlic, lemon juice, yogurt and olive oil, lightly seasoned .
Kebbeh Appetizer
3 deep fried ovals of beef and cracked wheat stuffed with ground beef, onions, pine nuts and lightly spiced.
Stuffed Grape Leaves (6 per order)
Grape leaves stuffed and rolled with a mixture of rice, tomatoes and onions.
Falafel (4 per order)
Chickpea and fava bean patties mixed with parsley, onion, garlic and an assortment of spices, deep fried. Served with a side of tahini.
Vegetarian Samosa
Dough stuffed with vegetables and spices.
Beef Samosa
Thin pastry filled with beef with fresh onions and coriander leaves.
Mezza
A sampling of hummus, baba ghanouge, kebbeh, falafel, grape leaves , tabbouli and a warm pita.
